The new car park for motorhomes will be installed on a 7,400 square metre plot on Urbanova beach, with capacity for 46 vehicles, following the decision taken by the Alicante City&Beach Tourist Board after discussing various options with the Heritage Department and Town Planning.
Previously, the car park was located on the beach of San Juan, but the upcoming arrival of the Cirque du Soleil to this enclave of the city forced to look for another location for caravans.
"We are aware that the motorhome parking service is in great demand and since the decision was made to move it, we have been working to find a suitable location that meets all the requirements and at the same time the uses of the plot chosen are compatible so as not to delay its start-up, which will be in the shortest possible time", says the Deputy Mayoress Mari Carmen Sánchez.
The project is in its final drafting phase and the refurbishment will be carried out by means of a minor works contract to speed up the procedures and ensure that the service can be up and running as soon as possible. In addition, some of the furniture from the previous camping area can be reused in the new location as it is in good condition.
The new car park will be able to accommodate 44 residential vehicles, plus two spaces for users with reduced mobility (a total of 46) and will have all the services. Its management will be put out to tender once the project has been finalised.
Specifically, the plot is located between the Saladar de Agua Amarga road and Calle Músico José Mira Figueroa, next to the Urbanova community social centre.
