San Sebastián (Gipuzkoa) Bans Non-Residents' Camper Van Parking at Night

The Mobility Department of San Sebastián has decreed that non-residents will not be allowed to park in various coastal areas from 9:00 PM to 9:00 AM. The affected areas include Paseo Nuevo, Paseo de Salamanca, Avenida de la Zurriola, Paseo de José Miguel de Barandiaran (Sagüés), Paseo de Eduardo Chillida (Tenis), Avenida de Satrustegi (Ondarreta), and Avenida de Zumalakarregi up to number 13.

Non-residents will no longer be able to park overnight in certain areas of San Sebastián's coastline, effectively preventing camper vans from spending the night in these places, where they have traditionally done so as the regulations did not prohibit it. Paseo Nuevo, Paseo de Salamanca, Avenida de la Zurriola, Paseo de José Miguel de Barandiaran (Sagüés), Paseo de Eduardo Chillida (Tenis), Avenida de Satrustegi (Ondarreta), and Avenida de Zumalakarregi up to number 13 are the areas where parking for non-residents will be prohibited from 9:00 PM until 9:00 AM the following day.

This decision was announced on Tuesday by the acting Mobility Councilor, Pilar Arana, who will leave the City Council after the inauguration of the new municipal corporation on Saturday.

These changes will be implemented for this summer season with the aim of "reducing the pressure of non-local vehicles on surface parking areas" in the mentioned streets. All of these streets are currently regulated with parking meters (OTA), which will now become exclusive resident-only parking zones during nighttime hours.

To enforce the new OTA regulations in the coastal areas, the City Council must paint new road signs on the streets and install relevant information signs, which will be done "soon," according to municipal sources.

On the same Tuesday, the acting mayor, Eneko Goia, noted that the City Council is "currently working on modifying the OTA ordinance" to change the situation, which currently allows camper vans to park in any regulated parking area, just like other cars. The mayor made these statements after the last Government Board meeting of the term, in which the license to build a camper van campsite in Oriamendi was approved.

Currently, there is a camper van parking area with 44 spaces in Igara, equipped with water supply and lighting. This specific space for tourist vehicles has OTA rates (7.60 euros per day in the high season) and 3.30 euros for the rest of the year, with a maximum stay of 72 hours.
